Code of ethics

The Ingeniería Agrícola y Biosistemas (INAGBI) journal follows the international standards published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure transparency in both the publication of contributions and the associated dispute resolution procedures.

Authors must declare compliance with ethical standards throughout their research and manuscript preparation by signing the submission letter. Furthermore, authors must assume full responsibility for the content of the manuscript.

Originality of the manuscripts. Authors must ensure that they have written completely original works. If they have used the work or phrases of other authors, these must be cited appropriately.

Plagiarism. This practice can occur in many ways, from self-plagiarism (citing one's own work without the respective reference), presenting someone else's work as one's own, copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another work (without attribution), and even claiming as one's own the results of research conducted by others. Plagiarism (in all its forms) and fraudulent statements constitute unethical conduct and are unacceptable in the scientific community and in the editorial process.

The journal uses the iThenticate® software to verify the originality of submitted manuscripts before beginning the peer review process.

Multiple publication. Authors must not submit manuscripts that are essentially the same to more than one journal.

Acknowledgement of consulted sources. Credit should always be given to the work of other authors through proper citation.

Authorship of the contribution. Authorship must be limited to those who contributed significantly to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research conducted.

Self-citation and fabricated citations. Authors should avoid self-citations and citations unrelated to the main objective of the paper.

Research ethics. All contributions that address topics such as genetic manipulation, environmental impact, the use of radiation, biosafety, animal welfare, public health, discrimination, or any other socially sensitive issue must comply with the applicable regulations, authorizations, and permits in the country and at the institution where the research was conducted, whenever such provisions exist and are legally enforceable.

The Universidad Autónoma Chapingo and its institutional journals disclaim any liability arising from authors’ failure to comply with these obligations; authors shall bear full responsibility for the corresponding legal, ethical, and administrative consequences.

Furthermore, the journal reserves the right to reject, suspend, or withdraw any submission if the editorial board determines that the work violates ethical, moral, or regulatory principles, to ensure the scientific integrity and transparency of the research.

Post-publication corrections and retractions. The INAGBI journal is open to publishing corrections (errata) or retractions in cases where it is proven that the published article contains significant errors. To do so, authors must submit a request via email to the Editor-in-Chief of the INAGBI journal, who will issue a decision within 30 business days after receiving the request. To issue an opinion, the Editor-in-Chief must consult with experts and may employ any tools deemed necessary for this purpose.

Complaints. Possible irregularities related to editorial ethics (such as plagiarism, duplicate publication, manipulation of information and data, or authorship conflicts) may be reported via email to the Coordinación de Revistas Institucionales (Coordination of Institutional Journals) of the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo and to the Editor-in-Chief of the INAGBI journal, who will analyze the complaint.

The complaint must explain the facts in detail and be accompanied by supporting documentation and evidence. Additional information may be required.

The decision will be issued in accordance with the editorial policies and institutional regulations applicable to the institutional journals of the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo. If the situation warrants it, support may be sought from other institutional bodies to resolve the issue.

Depending on the nature and severity of the irregularity or fault, measures such as rejection of the manuscript, request for revisions, publication of errata, issuance of warning notes, or formal retraction of the published article may be implemented. Throughout the entire process, the confidentiality of the information and the decisions resulting from each proceeding will be ensured.

Conflict of interest. Authors must declare any financial or employment relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence or bias the outcome of the work, such as financial gain, personal prestige, or institutional commitments. To this end, authors must disclose any conflicts of interest and, if such conflicts exist, describe the agreements reached.

Reviewers must refrain from participating in the evaluation of manuscripts whenever there is a conflict of interest that could affect their objectivity, impartiality, or academic independence. This includes personal, business, employment, institutional, academic, or recent collaborative relationships with any of the authors or with the institutions involved in the research. If a conflict of interest arises, they must decline the requested review. Furthermore, the information contained in the manuscripts under review must be treated as strictly confidential in accordance with our personal data protection policy.

Manuscripts authored by any collaborator in the INAGBI journal (editors, reviewers, members of editorial bodies) will not receive preferential treatment in the selection of reviewers, and their evaluation will be carried out under the same criteria applicable to any other contribution.
