Abstract
The purpose of a wetland is to significantly eliminate biological, chemical and physical impurities present in water, thus contributing to the improvement of water quality and preservation of the local ecosystem. This research aimed to design a constructed wetland system by characterizing the waste discharged into a section of the Tantala Stream, a runoff that runs through the town of Milcahuales in the municipality of Álamo Temapache, Veracruz. The result was the design of a four-phase vertical flow subsurface constructed wetland. The research included a literature review on wetland issues at the international and national level, collection of information from the study area through interviews with the population to identify pollution sources, and field trips to observe the conditions of the stream; as a result, the predominant wastes identified in the water were organic, inorganic and those requiring special handling. The study will significantly contribute to improving the quality of life of the community and preserving the environmental surroundings in the long term.
