The objective was to determine the productivity and profitability of the crop of pecan (Carya illinoensis) through water
pumping in the ejidal sector in the La Region Lagunera, Mexico. We used methodology consisting of the economic relationship Benefit- Cost, as well as various indicators of productivity per hectare and per hour of work invested. We used the following economic approaches: mathematician, structural and comparative-static as it always compared 2003-2006 versus 1990-1992. Also, we used the method of valuation at constant prices, considering the year 2002 as a basis for deflating. The results show us that the area planted, production and the value generated by the cultivation decreased respectively from 1,573 to 814.3 hectares (-3.8%), from 1,496 to 4.8 million tones per annum (-3.9%) and from $40.4 to $20.7 million of pesos (190%). The pecan decreased its percentage contribution in the totals throughout La Laguna: from 0.9 rose to 0.9% of the total harvested area, from 0.06 to 0.01% of the physical volume of production and its contribution to the Gross Value of Production (GVP ) from 2.4 to 1.0% of the regional agricultural GVP. The productivity per hectare grew 1.6% in physical terms (from 0.942 to 0.957 ton / he), while the gain per hectare increased 7.4% to go from $13, 006 to $13,965. The increase in profit was the result of the income per hectare increased at an annual rate of 0.42% while the cost per hectare was -0.69%, meanwhile, the income per hectare rose due to increased yields physical per hectares (at 1.6% per
annum) and the price (at 0.1% per annum). The relationship Benefit-Cost was rising because increased 10.3 percentage points to the rise of 2.025 rose to 2.234. The main cost is irrigation, but the cost decrease in relative terms, therefore represent 28.9% of the total cost decreased to 26.8%, the harvest was urged, from 14.4% rose to 32.7% of the total cost. The hour of work became minus productive, because from 2.35 rose to 1.90 the number of kilos of pecan produced per hour of work, while increased from 434.4 to 564.4 total working hours spent per ton of pecan, finally, while within one hour of work it had produced $64.2 in 1990-1992, in 2003- 2005 were produced $50.3 as income. A difference of pecan in water pumping in the ejidal sector the pecan show the decreased relationship Benefit/Cost as well as 35.2% diminished in the employment.
